PARIS, June 1 (Reuters) - Oil major Total would be able to return to Iran one day if it is forced to abandon the South Pars 11 gas project due to U.S.

sanctions, and hand over its 50.1 percent stake to Chinese partner CNPC, CEO Patrick Pouyanne told shareholders.

Pouyanne reiterated that Total would have to withdraw from the project if it does not obtain specific waivers from the United States government to pursue the project.
