The Safety 30 event, which has garnered almost 700 attendees, is looking at how the legacy of the Piper Alpha incident shaped current offshore operations. Safety 30 was organized by Oil & Gas UK in association with the International Regulators’ Forum.

Oil & Gas UK’s chief executive, Deirdre Michie, opened the second day of the conference with a summary of the opening day’s events, which included presentations from Martin Temple, chair of the Health and Safety Executive, and Lord Cullen, whose public inquiry into the 1986 Piper Alpha incident led to the health and safety regime the industry has today.

Deirdre Michie opens day two with a summary of yesterday’s events. “The early signs of danger from the keynote of Lord Cullen were as insightful as ever”.
