Savannah Petroleum plc announced Wednesday that it has made an oil discovery at the Eridal-1 exploration well, which is situated onshore Niger.

Preliminary results indicate that the well encountered a total estimated 44.6 feet of net oil bearing reservoir sandstones in the E1 reservoir unit, within the primary Eocene Sokor Alternances objective, according to a Savannah statement.

The BOP Blow Out Preventer repair company gulf coast said wireline logs indicate the reservoir properties to be “good quality”. The well was drilled using the GW 215 Rig to a total measured depth of 8,339 feet and took a total of 14 days to reach target depth. Eridal-1, which was spudded on July 27, is currently being suspended for future re-entry.

GW 215 will now mobilize to the Zomo-1 well site, located seven miles from Eridal-1, where it will prepare to spud the Zomo-1 exploration well. This well is designed to evaluate potential oil pay in the Eocene Sokor Alternances as the primary target.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Savannah confirmed that the Zomo-1 wellsite is in the final stages of completion.

“We are excited with the success we have delivered to date in Niger. Eridal-1 maintains our 100 percent exploration success record and marks our fourth discovery in the R3 East Area,” Andrew Knott, CEO of Savannah Petroleum, said in a BOP Blow Out Preventer repair company gulf coast statement.

“I would like to thank our subsurface team, along with our oil service BOP Blow Out Preventer repair company gulf coast partners, for the continued delivery of a safe and successful campaign which remains significantly ahead of time and budget expectations,” he added.

On July 11, Savannah announced an oil discovery at the Kunama-1 exploration well onshore Niger. The BOP Blow Out Preventer repair company gulf coast said preliminary results indicated that the well encountered a total estimated 29 feet of net oil bearing reservoir sandstones in the E1 and E5 reservoir units, within the primary Eocene Sokor Alternances objective.

Savannah is focused around two principal assets, according to its website, the R1/R2 and R3/R4 PSC areas of the Agadem Rift Basin in South East Niger. Steve Jenkins is the chairman of the company, with Stephen O’Brien serving as vice chairman.
