“Compared to July, consumer demand for gasoline is weaning and prices are following suit,” Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson, said in a written statement. “The national average is expected to keep moving lower, especially with the switchover to lower grade gasoline in September.”

According to AAA, the national gasoline price average for August 20 is $2.84 per gallon – three cents lower than the price at the beginning of the month. With the exception of several states, most U.S. motorists are enjoying “slow, but steady pump price drops” as summer draws to a close. AAA pointed out that fuel retailers will start selling winter-blend gasoline next month.
