US Jobs Report: Mining Adds 6,000 Jobs in August
Employment in mining took a positive turn for the month of August, the BLS reports.

Following , the industry experienced an increase of about 6,000 jobs in August, according to data released Sept.

7 from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Oil and gas extraction, which is categorized under mining by the BLS, saw a slight decrease of 700 jobs in the month of August. However, support activities for mining fared far better, experiencing an increase of 6,300 jobs.

The number of the nation’s mining jobs hit a recent low in October 2016, but the industry has since added 104,000 jobs, almost entirely in support activities for mining, the BLS reports.

In Texas alone, employment opportunities are still thriving, . July marked the , according to data from the Texas Workforce Commission compiled by the Texas Oil and Gas Association.
