UK Union Members Emphatically Reject Revised Total Pay Offer
UK union Unite says its members have 'emphatically rejected' a revised pay offer by Total.

UK union Unite has stated that its members have “emphatically rejected” a revised pay offer by Total.

The development is the latest in a dispute which has seen Unite carry out on the Alwyn, Dunbar and Elgin platforms in the North Sea.

Unite said a meeting “under the auspices of ACAS [the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service]” has been set up for September 13. If negotiations at ACAS are not successful, the previously proposed industrial action on the platforms on September 17, October 1, 15 and 29 “will go ahead”, the union confirmed.

“The emphatic vote to reject the revised pay offer by Total demonstrates that we are a significant way off from agreement,” Unite Regional Industrial Officer, Wullie Wallace, said in an organization statement.

“Unite is committed to returning to negotiations under the auspices of ACAS this week, however, based on the strength of feeling among our offshore membership this must surely lead to Total management seriously revising their strategy,” he added.

“If not, then prospective industrial action is inevitable and it will lead to further disruption of the company’s operations,” Wallace added.

Back in June, Unite announced that its members employed by Total E&P working on North Sea oil and gas platforms were set to begin industrial action in July in a dispute over pay and working hours. A series of initial on the platforms was announced in July.

that the increasing scale and repetition of labor strikes in the North Sea raises operational risks to both the timelines of new project developments and to the longer-term investment attractiveness of operations in the region.

Total’s oil rig flanges gulf coast production in the UK comes from three major hubs, according to the company’s website. Alwyn and Dunbar are part of the Northern North Sea hub and Elgin is part of the Central Graben hub. The BOP Blow Out Preventer repair company gulf coast has been present in the UK for more than 50 years.
