VIENNA, Dec 20 (Reuters) - The chief executive of OMV does not expect big compensation claims from clients after last week's explosion at the Baumgarten gas hub owned by its Gas Connect Austria (GCA) unit, he said on Wednesday.

"Noone's heating went out in Austria and (also) in Italy and there was no power cut," Rainer Seele told reporters, adding he expected "no big claims" for compensation, without giving details.

The blast at the Baumgarten gas hub, which killed one person and disrupted European gas flows, was most likely caused by a loose seal on a filter cap, according to GCA.

Seele said that while prosecutors, who have sealed off part of the site for their investigation, are looking into the incident, he did not want to speculate on what caused the explosion and what the damage at the site was.

"We have a very good chance of finding out the real origin of the accident. This will still take a few weeks," Seele said.

The hub in eastern Austria is a major regional transfer point, taking gas from as far away as Russia and pumping it towards neighbours including Italy - its biggest recipient - as well as Germany, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia.
